Maro Vandorou
Maro Vandorou will be showing her ethereal Platinotypes of Keramicos, an ancient cemetery near her birthplace in Athens, Greece. The body of work, entitled "Fragmented Light," consists of Platinum Palladium prints on rare, hand-made Japanese Gampi paper. Vandorou photographs with film and converts it to enlarged digital negatives. The resultant imagery combines the technology of digital with the beauty and archival value of the 19th century photographic process.
This exhibition at Newspace is part of Vandorou's four-city tour with the series, which opened at the Titanium Art Gallery in Athens, Greece in March, followed by a show at the International Press Center Gallery in Belgrade, Serbia in April, and will be opening at the Hillyer Art Space Gallery in Washington DC this September, as well. Vandorou was awarded a Regional Arts and Culture Council Artist's Grant and an American Hellenic Progressive Educational Foundation (AHEPA) Grant for her work on this series.

Kay Denton
Kay Denton will be showing her body of work, "Leafsmoke." Denton makes beautifully timeless, haunting images using an 8x10 view camera paired with unusual vintage lenses. The prints are sun-printed as contact prints and gold toned to bring out a rich, earthy tonal range. For the past 19 years her work has been exhibited and published in the U.S., Canada, France, and Mexico.
Kays' photographs are in various private collections as well as the Harry Ransom Center at The University of Texas at Austin. She is currently represented by the Stephen Bulger Gallery in Toronto, and is a Photographer's Showcase artist with the online Photoeye Gallery of Santa Fe, New Mexico. Kay Denton will be present at the opening reception.
