In this class, you'll learn to control and design lighting to create striking portraits. You'll learn how to make your subjects look their best as you fine-tune your eye to the many nuances of lighting for portraiture. Class will cover classic portraiture lighting scenarios, such as Rembrandt and Butterfly lighting, as well as fresh contemporary styles.
You'll work hands-on with lighting as you experiment with reflectors and other light modifiers, like the beauty dish. You'll also learn to minimize a subject's problem areas and work with backdrops as you refine your technique.
Required prerequisite: Lighting Basics or instructor's consent. Students should bring cameras and may shoot with film or digitally.
This class will be taught by Portland photographer Tom Hassler. Tom is the Co-President of the Portland chapter of the American Society of Media Photographers (ASMP).
