Workshops

In Search of Lost Time
Friday, August 15th 6:30-9:30pm & Saturday, August 16th 10am-5pm
$115

This workshop is a re-photographic exploration into Portland's history with photographer Shawn Records. The workshop will begin with a discussion of photographic projects that explore the connections between history, site, and memory. Historic newspaper articles will serve as a jumping-off point for a full day of shooting at several storied locations nearby.

This workshop is perfect for those experimenting with different styles and methods and for those looking to break out of a rut and try something new. Students should bring cameras and may shoot with film or digitally.

Shawn Records holds a BA from Boise State University and an MFA from Syracuse University. His work has been shown at Blue Sky Gallery, Castillo/Corrales (Paris), the Portland Art Museum, the Whatcom Museum of History and Art (Bellingham, WA), the Jen Bekman Gallery (NYC), the Rooke Gallery (Johannesburg), and the Museum of Contemporary Photography (Chicago), among others. His work has also been published in Camerawork, DoubleTake, Adbusters, Ripe, Portland Modern, Photography Quarterly, Practice: New Writing and Art, and included in "Around the Corner: a Photo Essay" by Lucy R. Lippard. His work is in the permanent collections of the Portland Art Museum, the Boise Art Museum, and the Portland and Boise Visual chronicles. In addition to pursuing his own work, he regularly does editorial assignment work and teaches photography at Clark College and Mount Hood Community College.
