Have you ever wondered what it might be like to use your photography for a greater purpose? Have you ever wanted to do the kind of work you see in National Geographic? Many local non-profits and international NGO's hire photographers to help document important humanitarian, conservation, or world relief issues and this can mean extremely rewarding work. In this workshop, you'll study the non-profit market in the Portland Metro Area and discuss how to get assignment work targeting these issues. You'll also learn documentary techniques targeted for non-profits and learn how to avoid some of the pitfalls unique to documenting humanitarian concerns.
The class will be taught by photographer Joel Preston Smith. Joel is the author of Night of a Thousand Stars and Other Portraits of Iraq. His non-profit credits include Mercy Corps, Aid International, Northwest Medical Teams, Middle East Children's Alliance and others.
