Making Better Pictures
Eight Thursdays, July 15th through September 2nd
6:30-9:30pm
$315
You've been photographing for
a while now, and although your
pictures are generally adequate,
you sense that they could be better.
But how? If only you knew which
questions to ask.
In this class,
you'll spend eight weeks exploring
how to make better pictures under
the patient guidance of Frank
Lavelle, a photo-educator and
fine-art photographer with over 30
years of experience. You'll learn to
take advantage of light and color,
adding emotional, symbolic, and
intuitive elements to your photographs.
Field trips around Portland will be complemented
by critiques and slide presentations illustrating technical and aesthetic issues, including often
misunderstood issues like composition and exposure. This is a class about seeing, inspiration,
awareness, and perception. Come with great expectations - and prepare to be challenged.
Students should bring cameras and may shoot with film or digitally.
Instructor Frank Lavelle teaches at the Maine Media Workshops and Santa Fe Workshops.
