The Last Thursday Art Walk on Alberta Street is a fantastic opportunity for people watching - bright colors, costumes, painted faces, and quirky characters are the order of the day. Award-winning portrait photographer Jan Sonnenmair is no stranger to getting up-close and personal with her subjects - and on this trip, she'll show you how it's done.

Jan will help you get outside your comfort zone and interact with subjects to create portraits that are more than just grab-shots. So, dust off your hula hoops, put your party shoes on, and come join the fun! Short focal length lenses (35-50mm) are recommended.

Jan Sonnenmair is a commercial photographer and photojournalist in Portland, Oregon. She is known for creating life stories and images that speak to the heart of her subjects. Her love of people and experience photographing life's joys and hardships, gives her a sensitive eye and unique ability to create a comfortable working relationship with the people she photographs. She has been the recipient of several awards including the World Press Foundation's award for photo essays for her project, "A Legacy of AIDS".
